Heel and toes should remain on the footbed without overhanging. Adjust the straps and walk a few steps: they should not dig into the instep or let the foot slide forward. A firmly fastened strap cannot compensate for a short or narrow footbed.

Only if the model is explicitly intended for that use. An open shape or plastic-looking sole does not establish water resistance or grip on wet surfaces. Decorations, lights and certain materials may need to stay dry.

Measure both feet and use the larger measurement with the model's size guide. Try the usual socks: toes need room without the heel slipping out. Foot length and insole length are different measurements, so check which one the guide uses.

Laces let you adjust the hold across the instep, while hook-and-loop straps are quick to open and close. A zip can widen the opening without changing the lace adjustment. Check the model's combination and whether the wearer can manage it.

Try them beforehand with the outfit's socks or tights. Walk and sit, checking that the fastening does not press and the heel stays in place. Match the finish to the clothes, but a special occasion is no reason to accept rubbing or an incorrect size.

Do not assume so. Follow the model's specific care instructions; a removable insole does not establish that the whole shoe can be machine-washed.
